Fire Department issues temporary ban on all open-air burning

Imposed so crews can focus on essential services, emergency calls

SooToday received the news release below from Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services.

Aaron Gravelle, public education officer with Sault Fire Services, told SooToday the current ban on open air burning was imposed so crews can focus on essential services and emergency calls without tying up resources responding to burning complaints.

Effective at 12 noon today, March 23, 2020, and until further notice, all open-air burning within the municipality of Sault Ste. Marie is temporarily banned.

During this ban, Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services will not be renewing or issuing permits. Any individual burning during the effective ban will be subject to penalty.
