A local healthcare staffing agency that introduced seniors to free trishaw bike rides is launching a new initiative to help young parents sleep better at night.

Following last month's survey that produced favourable results, Kristy Delavalle from Superior Staff it Inc. has opened a waitlist for “The Night Nanny” — a unique program designed to give exhausted parents some extra rest while their infants are cared for by trusted professionals.

The Night Nanny offers customized support as tailored care plans can be created to fit each family’s varying needs.

Delavalle told SooToday she’s thrilled with the feedback her team has received so far.

“People had nothing but positive things to say,” she said. “We’ve heard from lots of parents, and even from people who used to have young children that wished this service was available to them in the past. I couldn’t have asked for a better result.”

Five to seven hour shifts will be available to families at a cost of $30/hour plus HST.

“That was kind of the median number in regards to the amount of people who responded to the survey,” Delavalle explained.

Superior Staff it Inc. will soon begin hiring nurses who have a background in neonatal care and pediatrics, while early childhood educators and experienced nannies will also be considered for the program.

Having served the community for eight years in other healthcare facets, the agency will handle the pre-screening, interviewing, background checks, payroll, liability insurance, scheduling, and other administrative tasks.

Depending on how successful the program is, Delavalle said her team would consider expanding nanny services to additional time slots during the day.

But for now, their primary target is evening care.

“Our main concern is offering parents a little alleviation throughout the evening,” she said. “But it’s not to say there isn’t a possibility of before or after school options down the road. We’ll see what our waitlist looks like and go from there.”

Nurses, early childhood educators, and other residents with a background in childcare will be able to apply for a position in the coming weeks.
