Hot dogs, hamburgers and fresh produce were being given out for free at the corner of Gore and Albert streets

Saulites from all walks of life got together on the corner of Gore and Albert streets on Thursday for a community barbecue put on by Grocer 4 Good.

Hot dogs, hamburgers and fresh produce were being given out for free from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Gore and Albert streets. It was also a chance for people to share ideas on how to improve the area.

“People have this fear of coming to Gore Street, that it’s a bad place and people are doing drugs and there’s crime, but it’s a neighbourhood,” said Grocer 4 Good founder Lisa Vezeau-Allen an an interview with SooToday's Ken Armstrong. “Grandparents live here and brothers and sister and moms and dads. We have a ton of students in the area.”

She said it’s a myth that crime and drug use only happen downtown.
