The pilot of a helicopter involved in an accident near Wawa last week sustained non life-threatening injuries, according to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

Operated by Heli Explore Inc., the Eurocopter AS350 B2 was conducting long-lining operations at the time of Thursday's occurrence.

The pilot was the only person on board.

"TSB investigators attended the site to collect information and document it," wrote TSB spokesperson Nic Defalco. "The investigation is ongoing. It is too soon in the investigation for any conclusions to be drawn."

We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

Original story from Sunday:

A helicopter accident that occurred in the Wawa area last Thursday has prompted the Transportation Safety Board of Canada to deploy two investigators to the scene.

While details are limited at this time, the TSB has shared that the incident involves a Eurocopter AS350 B2 helicopter.

When reached by SooToday over email, a spokesperson with the TSB said they are yet to hear back from the investigators as they are most likely without reception.

It is currently undetermined what caused the accident, how many people were involved, or what the extent of injuries were.

According to Airbus Helicopters Canada, the multipurpose, single-engine aircraft can perform a wide range of missions, including passenger transportation, aerial work, training, observation, firefighting, and law enforcement, among others.

Its cabin can accommodate one pilot and up to 6 passengers.

TSB investigators remain on site as of Sunday and are collecting information.

The Wawa area is no stranger to helicopter-related accidents as the TSB recently released its findings of a fatal incident in 2023 involving a ground crew member who became entangled in a helicopter tow line.

As the pilot took off, the crew member was unknowingly carried away before falling to his death.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
