Here's what a McDonald's PlayPlace looks like in 2024

McDonald's on Great Northern Road was a busy place this afternoon as dozens of kids were eager to try out the restaurant's brand-new PlayPlace. 

Open for the first time today, the reimagined playground features an obstacle course full of moving components, outdoorsy type climbs, and age-separated zones for younger and older visitors.

With a capacity for 60 kids, PlayPlace also includes some technological advances like Stomp Tower, Floor keyboard, as well as Ucreate & Sparkle Collections.

The revamped version comes 24 years after the previous rendition opened to the public.

McDonald’s had closed its doors earlier this year as construction crews began working on a new dining area and drive-thru, in addition to the re-imagined PlayPlace. Those developments are now complete and were celebrated by the restaurant throughout the weekend. 

In anticipation of the re-opening, local franchisee Rob Prober and his team raised funds to support the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society. A portion of the proceeds from every Big Mac and McChicken sold until March 29 went directly to the organization.

They presented the Humane Society with a cheque for nearly $2,200 earlier this afternoon.
