'I need to sit down!': Elliot Laker wins $100K in Sault Area Hospital draw

Arlene Martin of Elliot Lake needed to take a little rest when she heard the news that she had won the January Sault Area Hospital Foundation 50/50 draw.

“One second – I need to sit down!” said the long-time supporter of the fundraising draw, upon learning she would take home a little over $100,000.

On Wednesday, Jan. 31, Arlene Martin of Elliot Lake won a $100,138 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) January 50/50 draw. Arlene’s lucky number (J-6603378) was drawn electronically, and she was called immediately.

“One second – I need to sit down!” was Arlene’s response when she got the news! She shared that her family has had recent experiences with care at Sault Area Hospital, and she’s been supporting SAHF’s 50/50 draws for a long time. “We’re very grateful to the Sault Area Hospital, for everything they do.”

Arlene wasn’t the only winner this month – January’s early bird, Tammy Parr of Sault Ste. Marie, was the lucky winner of $10,000 on Jan. 17 with ticket J-4355813.

“It was wonderful to start the year on a high note – giving away a big cash prize. Our supporters make it possible for us to continue these lotteries and support the outstanding care provided at SAH,” said Teresa Martone, executive director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “All proceeds help bring vital equipment to our hospital to provide the best possible care. Truly everyone who receives care at Sault Area Hospital wins!"

Tickets for SAHF’s February’s 50/50 draw are on sale now! Get your tickets before Feb. 14 for a chance to win the $10,000 early bird prize – plus every ticket has a chance at the growing jackpot. Final draw for the jackpot is Feb. 29.

Tickets are 10 for $10; 60 for $20; 200 for $40; or 750 for $75. In addition to online sales at www.soolottery.ca, tickets can be purchased in person at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Office (750 Great Northern Rd.) from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and in the province of Ontario to play.
