Idle No More Bawating day of action planned for tomorrow

Idle No More Bawating will be joining in a global solidarity day of action tomorrow with several events planned for the Sault.

These events will focus on honouring the lands and waters while raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment, say organizers.

"This event stresses that “Idle No More” is a movement for all Canadians and peoples living in Canada," they say.

They are inviting the Anishinaabe People, and supporters, of Sault Ste. Marie, Garden River First Nation, Batchewana First Nation and area to join them for a day of global solidarity.

The day will begin with a traditional sunrise ceremony at the Arbour at Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig, adjacent to Algoma University.

A traditional feast is scheduled for noon at the Indian Friendship Centre on East Street, near Queen Street and, at 1 p.m. a march from there to the Civic Centre at 99 Foster Drive is planned.

At the Civic Centre, a rally with songs and speeches is planned, followed by a traditional water ceremony scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
