The Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie is organizing for the first time locally the ovarian cancer Walk of Hope.

The ovarian cancer Walk of Hope is taking place Sept. 8 at Bellevue Park in Sault Ste. Marie. This is part of a national event which happens every September, Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.

The walk locally is being organized by the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie to raise funds for research, advocacy, and support, and paying tribute to those impacted by the disease.

"This cause has been too long overlooked – survival rates haven’t changed in 50 years – and it’s time to make ovarian cancer unignorable," said a news release. "Each day, we lose five women to this disease, and they deserve better. We’re showing up to make sure they get it. It's a day filled with hope, solidarity, and community spirit."

The event kicks off with registration at 10 a.m. at Bellevue Park and opening ceremonies at 10:45 a.m. Participants can walk individually, with friends, or as part of a team. Registering for the Walk of Hope can be done ahead of time online and is simple. Money raised goes directly towards research, education, and support programs for those affected by ovarian cancer. For more details and to register, go to ovariancancerwalkofhope.ca.
