11:25 a.m. original story:
Wawa's municipal offices are open, but email and other online services have been down since Thursday afternoon as a Shaw outage continues to impact the community, says Mayor Melanie Pilon.
Pilon said it has now been close to 24 hours since the municipality was cut off from the Internet. She said staff are still in the town office, but "we are able to provide limited services at this time."
Shaw first reported the Wawa outage on its website shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday. Shaw says the outage includes home and business phone and Internet services, as well as digital TV. As of 9:53 p.m. on Thursday there was no estimate as to when service would be restored.
"Technicians are on site working to restore service as quickly as possible. No ETA at this time but we will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when available. Thank you for your patience!" says the latest update from Shaw.
Meanwhile, SooToday has heard from a number of Internet users in the Sault who report their service has been slow as molasses since yesterday, although those users are on the Bell network locally. Shaw service appears to be operating normally.
