Kiwanis Club rallies young cyclists at Bellevue for afternoon fun

Hosting their first-ever Youth Bicycle Rally, the Kiwanis Club of Sault Ste. Marie collaborated with the Sault Cycling Club to provide free bike tune-ups, games, and refreshments for young cyclists

The Kiwanis Club of Sault Ste. Marie excitedly welcomed young families to the Bellevue Park Marina on Sunday for the organization’s first-ever Youth Bicycle Rally.

The free event invited young cyclists aged 6-12 to enjoy a variety of games and activities while they received some instruction and tips on bike safety.

The Sault Cycling Club was in attendance to offer free bike tune-ups and safety checks for the kids before they headed out for a fun ride to Topsail Island and back.

Every kid who completed the bike ride received a backpack full of goodies, and they were each entered into a draw for a chance to win several prizes – including a brand-new bike.

Jim St. Jules, the president of the Kiwanis Club of SSM, was impressed with the turnout this afternoon, and he’s already looking forward to expanding the event further next summer.

“We’re hoping this event will grow, and then maybe we can do this even bigger and better next year,” he says. “It’s a service project. Kids are priority number one for us – that’s our mandate. This is something we’re giving back to the community through our club and participation.”

Sault Police and Search and Rescue were also on-site to help out the kids along the bike route.
