Learn more about local 'period poverty' at free virtual event

St. Vincent Place is inviting the public to learn more about period poverty at a free virtual information session on Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. 

Period poverty refers to the thousands of women who do not have sufficient access to menstrual products, especially due to the high cost of these items. Some studies estimate that the average woman will spend about $6,000 on period products throughout their life.

St. Vincent Place is pleased to invite the public to join a free virtual education session about period poverty and advocacy in Canada.

Period poverty is a serious public health issue that has been overlooked for too long. Period poverty refers to the thousands of women who do not have sufficient access to menstrual products, especially due to the high cost of these items. Some studies estimate that the average woman will spend about $6,000 on period products throughout their life - for someone already struggling with being able to afford food, that's a heavy burden.

Unfortunately, when women can't afford the menstrual products they need, it can become a serious health risk - for example, using menstrual products for too long increases the risk of infections. It can also result in women staying home from work or school.

Join us on Thursday, March 28 from 6:30-7:30PM for this free session, hosted on Google Meet, to learn more about period poverty and what you can do to help fight it.
This session is led by The Period Purse, an organization that works to create menstrual equity by ensuring sustainable access to period products for all, and aims to end the stigma associated with periods through education and advocacy.
