Another sign of summer, compliments of the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service.

With nicer weather in the forecast, open-air burning permits will be needed to enjoy summer nights with a backyard fire.

The renewal of previous permits, as well as getting a new one, can be done online through Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service.

Permits can also be issued over the phone by calling (705) 949-3333, then pressing '3' for open air burning during regular office hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday).

Certified propane and natural gas fire pits, fireplaces, and/or fire tables do not require an open-air burning permit.
