Local organization needs to fill 6 spots on its board

It's a 'unique opportunity' says CEO

Algoma Family Services is looking to fill a number of seats on its board of directors.

There are currently six positions open on the board with applications encourages from Indigenous, francophone, and newcomer candidates.

AFS CEO Ali Juma called the chance to join the board "a unique opportunity."

Juma added that the board plans to launch its new strategic plan in the fall as well.

The commitment for new board members is:

Meet at least ten times per year

  • fulfillment of a minimum three-year term
  • sit on one or more of the board committees
  • attend various community events during the year
  • willingness to progress into board leadership roles

The qualifications needed to become a board member include:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • A resident of Algoma
  • Possess a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Experience in one of the following areas:
    • legal/law
    • finance
    • education
    • business
    • diversity, equity, and inclusion

To apply for a position, a letter of interest and resume can be submitted to the AFC executive office by email.

The posting will remain open until the six positions have been filled and only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
