Local participants ‘Walk to End ALS’ (14 photos)

A cooler breeze and a bit of cloud coverage was good news for walkers taking part in the Sault’s annual Walk to End ALS this morning.

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease that causes loss of muscle control.

The disease is fatal and there is currently no cure.

The fundraiser is held every year across the country to honour those who have lost their lives to ALS, while supporting the estimated 3,000 Canadians that are currently living with the disease.

Sunday’s participants in the Sault had the option of walking a 3 or 5 km route along the waterfront and city sidewalks.

Local organizers have set a $25,000 goal for this year’s walk.

Funds raised will go towards ALS research and community-based support to people and families impacted by the disease.
