The days of Chelsey Forbes-Ferguson riding public transit came to an end Friday afternoon.

At Great Lakes Honda with a crowd of new car hopefuls in attendance, the winner of the dealership’s year-long Spot the Civic social media campaign was announced.

Gasps of excitement spread through the room as Chelsey was named the winner of a brand new 2016 Honda Civic LX.

She was one of 1,800 qualifying entries, having entered the competition in June during the Sault Ste. Marie Canal’s Big Picnic event.

To be eligible, contestants were invited by Great Lakes Honda to take a selfie with the bright green and yellow ‘Spot the Civic’ car and post it to social media along with the #spotthecivic hashtag.

There were plenty of opportunities to take part in the contest as the vehicle was invited to more than 100 community events and locations throughout 2016.

And Chelsey took full advantage, reportedly entering a selfie almost every day since she first caught sight of it in June.

“I’m beyond grateful. It’s the best thing that ever could have happened to me,” she told SooToday following the announcement.

As a single mother and student, she said in a media release issued by Great Lakes Honda: “When I start working, it’ll be much easier to bring my son to and from daycare. This will give me an opportunity to spend that precious time with him. Everything I do is for him!”
