Lots of local history up for auction this weekend on Korah Road

Cash-only auction will be held behind The Stuff store at 296 Korah Rd. Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

Two floors worth of antiques and local memorabilia will be on the auction block this weekend as the new owner of a Korah Road building prepares to give it a new life.

The Stuff store at the bottom of Korah Road was operated for many years by Bobby Orazietti, who died in 2022. The two floors of inventory in the building represented a lifetime of picking for the former Jr. A Soo Greyhounds centre.

Blake Richards, the new owner of the building, is planning on auctioning off as much inventory as he can this weekend and will eventually split the existing space between a few businesses.

The cash-only auction will take place Saturday and Sunday in the lot behind the store at 296 Korah Rd. The auctions will begin at 10 a.m. and Richards said many auction items will start at just one dollar.

Richards said there has been particular interest in the old local signs and other pieces of Sault Ste. Marie memorabilia that is on display at the store.

"For a lot of people it kind of brings back memories," said Richards of the signs in the store. "Some of these businesses got rid of them and 20 years later are like, 'you know what? I want it back.'"

Aside from signs, there is just about everything on the shelves to be auctioned off, from books and records to vintage electronics and antique furniture.

Once enough inventory is gone, the renovations of the building can begin.

The Skeleton Key Used Bookstore, which moved from Gore Street a few years ago into the front of the building, will occupy one of the new units. Stuff will still remain as a smaller store and an ice cream shop is also planned for the space once renovated.

On Thursday Richards also announced on social media that his Queen Street restaurant Low & Slow will close on March 30 to focus on catering and 'a new culinary adventure.'

The details for the new venture will be announced in the near future, he said.
