Matthews Memorial Hospital scores Halloween treats

Matthews Memorial Hospital Association (MMHA) was pleased to see its delegation for the November meeting.

Barry and Bev Lyons, proprietors of the Rocky Ridge Halloween Haunt, were there to present a $1,520 cheque, donations raised from the recent event Halloween Haunt and pumpkin sale.

This year saw the introduction of a four-day haunt over two weekends. 

The Jocelyn couple said the reason behind the expansion was to provide more people the opportunity to take part in the fundraising event. 

More than 280 visitors braved the unknown and toured the haunted barn. Repeat visitors of all ages, were not included in the total number. 

Barry commended the estimated 20 volunteers that helped assembled and disassemble the props, and assume one of the many roles within the maze of scenes. 

MMHA board chair, Lavera Crack, told the board how impressed she was with the expanded scenes across the barnyard.

"It was utterly amazing the work that went into the set up," Crack said.

Barry shared with the board how thankful he was after a recent injury that caused him to seek medical attention.

"I'm very fortunate to have a hospital so close to where I live," Barry said. 

The Lyons are considering a number ideas and whether to implement them in 2019.
