More photos of those super fast boats (40 photos)

You didn't have to be in the Sault to see them

Spectators by the hundreds lined the shoreline along the North Channel of the Lower St. Marys River from Richards Landing to Hilton Beach everywhere possible to capture a split second glimpse one of 20 boats participating the 2016 Can/Am President's Cup VIPPoker Run.

The Poker Run, not a race, was hosted by Power Boating Canada, Poker Runs America and the Tourism Sault Ste. Marie and attracted owner-operators from across Canada and United States.

The distinct sound of massive horsepower was unmistakable, many on land agreed the thunderous boats could be heard passing Shoal Island long before they were seen approaching Richards Landing.

A helicopter, owned by Sault Ste. Marie-based Eagle Feather Aviation, filmed the event from the air also raised a few eyebrows for the countless onlookers that the boats were minutes away.

Captain and crew members left Sault Ste. Marie for points East, however, a last-minute change was made from the original schedule.

Originally the schedule included card pick-ups at Richards Landing, Hilton Beach, Thessalon and Drummond Island returning to the up-bound shipping channel through Middle Neebish Island.

The change stated Drummond Island was cancelled leaving participants in Canadian water and vessels turning around at Serpent Island returning to Sault Ste. Marie over the same course earlier traveled.

Whether you are attracted to fast boats, one could not help being drawn to the Richards Landing Marina where community volunteers offered a fishing net containing sealed envelopes with a single playing card to crew members.

Others took a leisurely stroll along the docks to examine up close one or all of these high performance machines in Hilton Beach where crews stopped for lunch.

Spectators enjoyed a second opportunity under increased horsepower shortly after leaving Hilton Beach returning to Sault Ste. Marie.
