A cross-country peace caravan hoping to draw attention to decarbonization, demilitarization and decolonization is stopping in Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay this week.

The Western portion of the caravan left Vancouver on Mothers’ Day on May 12 and will be in Sault Ste Marie on May 21 and North Bay on May 22 en route to a rally on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on May 27 and 28, the day before the huge CANSEC military arms fair.

The Sault Ste. Marie stop will include a vigil in front of MP Terry Sheehan’s office at 369 Queen Street East at 12:15 p.m.

In North Bay, the Caravan will be at the Kiwanis Bandshell at 7 p.m.

“This Caravan is a call to action to bring Canadians together to talk about the interconnectedness of these mounting issues that have caused the failure of the Canadian government to address our growing social problems,” said Caravan spokesperson Ellen Woodsworth, co-chair of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.

The Caravan is sponsored by the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace.
