In certain aspects of life, people will often say "no news is good news".

That appears to be the case with wildfires in Ontario as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is reporting a fourth straight day with no new confirmed wildfires in the northeast fire region.

The fire hazard is low to moderate across the region, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES).

Cochrane 11 (COC011), a 3,000-hectare fire that is not under control about 112 km southwest of Moosonee remains the "fire of note" in the northeast, according to the AFFES.

Six FireRanger crews are committed to the fire.

The five other wildland fires in the region are also in the north, and all five are being observed:

  • Cochrane 8 (COC008) is a 35 hectare fire about 57.5 km northwest of Moosonee.
  • Cochrane 9 (COC009) is a 6,022 hectare fire east of Parson Lake and 8 km from the Quebec border.
  • Cochrane 13 (COC013) is a 0.2 hectare fire about 33 km southwest of Peawanuck.
  • Cochrane 14 (COC014) is a 20 hectare fire about 30 km south-southwest of Peawanuck.
  • Cochrane 15 (COC015) is a 120 hectare fire about 29 km southeast of Peawanuck.
