No new wildfires, leaving two burning in Northeast Region, says release

There were no new wildfires Saturday in the Northeast Region, leaving two burning, according to a news release from the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services section of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. 

Cochrane 8 is located about 57.5 kilometres northwest of Moosonee and Cochrane 9 is located east of Parson Lake and eight kilometres west of the Quebec border.

The fire hazard is primarily moderate to high across most of the Northeast Region, the release added. The most southern part of the region, as well as south of Lake Abitibi and north of Sault Ste. Marie near Lake Superior is a low fire risk. There is an area north of Kapuskasing that has an extreme risk.

Northeast Region   

There were no new wildland fires confirmed by late afternoon today, Saturday, June 22. There are currently two active wildland fires in the Northeast Fire Region.

  • Cochrane 8 (COC008) is a 35-hectare fire that is being observed. This fire is located about 57.5 kilometres northwest of Moosonee.
  • Cochrane 9 (COC009) is a 6,022-hectare fire that is being observed. This fire is located east of Parson Lake and eight kilometres west of the Quebec border.

The fire hazard is primarily moderate to high across most of the Northeast Region. The most southern part of the region, as well as south of Lake Abitibi and north of Sault Ste. Marie, near Lake Superior, there is a low fire hazard. There is an area north of Kapuskasing that has an extreme fire hazard.
