Ontario reports 699 new COVID cases Tuesday

Public Health Ontario has reported 699 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 1).

This is the second consecutive day the province's daily case count has been fewer than 1,000.

Today's update also includes 1,568 new recoveries and nine deaths. 

The deaths include three people between 60 and 79 years old and six people over the age of 79. 

Since yesterday, the province has reported 73 new hospitalizations.

The June 1 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 804 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 731 yesterday.
  • There are 583 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 617 yesterday) and 387 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 382 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 20,262 tests were processed yesterday.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 207 are from Toronto, 144 cases are from Peel and 52 are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 159 individuals aged 19 and under, 281 people between 20 and 39 years old, 186 people between 40 and 59 years old, 90 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 14 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 532,158 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 511,703 recoveries and 8,766 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,580.1 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 55.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 34.4 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 393 cases, weekly rate of  7.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 392 cases. There are 12 known active cases. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 448 cases, weekly rate of 8.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 449 cases. There are 13 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 1,371cases, weekly rate of 278 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,362 cases. There are 326 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,073 cases, weekly rate of 9.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,093 cases. There are 27 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 205 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 206 cases. There are no known active cases.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,064 cases, weekly rate of 11.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,063 cases. There are 12 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,237 cases, weekly rate of 25.3 cases per 100,000 people. There are 54 known active cases. 

The data from Northern Ontario health units is based on what was available at 10:30 a.m. today.
