Overloaded extension cords have been blamed for a fire that caused significant damage to a home in the P Patch on Monday afternoon.

Fire crews responded to a house on Pawating Place shortly after 4 p.m. and were able to extinguish the fire. PUC Services and Enbridge Gas also attended the scene.

"Sault Fire Services would like to remind all citizens to only use extension cords for their intended use, do not overload extension cords or power bars, along with routinely checking for damaged or frayed cords and replace them if necessary," says a news release issued by Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services. "Always follow manufacturer’s instructions for electrical cords and appliances."

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
