Sault 16-year-old charged with impaired driving

A Sault Ste. Marie teen has been charged with impaired driving following a crash on Highway 17 Sunday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police were called to the single-vehicle crash east of Townline Road in Tarbutt-Tarbutt Additional Township just after 6:30 a.m.

Arriving officers found a vehicle with damage to the front end and the passenger side.

They suspected the driver had consumed alcohol, and after further testing at the Thessalon detachment, the 16-year-old was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Impaired-Alcohol and Drugs

In addition, the car has been impounded for a week.

The accused is scheduled to appear in an Elliot Lake court on December 7.

The identity of the teenager is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
