Sault College celebrates bright lights with annual awards

Last Friday, Sault College proudly recognized the outstanding commitment and dedication of a number of its high achieving employees at the College’s annual Service and Excellence Awards Ceremony. Surrounded by colleagues, qualifying employees who were nominated by peers and selected by an independent College committee, were lauded for outstanding work achievements.

“It was an honour to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of our staff. Everyone at Sault College strives to put the student first and on this occasion we focus on our staff that are committed and dedicated to this goal,” said Dr. Ron Common, president, Sault College.

“There is no doubt that these employees love what they do at the College. Their peers see it every day and it’s wonderful to applaud staff who are striving for excellence. The College is proud to recognize their success.”

The Northern Lights Employee Excellence Awards were created in 2006 to recognize excellence in any endeavour that enriches the community in which they serve. The objective of the Sault College Northern Lights Employee Excellence Award is to recognize and celebrate our people’s exceptional efforts in a variety of categories and in alignment with the actions of our Strategic Plan which involves the four 'P’s': enhancing our programs, investing in our people, connecting with our community partners, and building a new college (place.)

Sault College’s 2018 Northern Lights Employee Excellence Award recipients are:

• Anna Bruno – IT Department, for ongoing exceptional human relations skills and technical acumen
• Dan Grand – Academic Division Technician – for his technical acumen in troubleshooting and repairing some of the College’s most challenging academic equipment
• Barb Bringleson – President’s Office, for leading, organizing and participating in multiple internal and external charitable and fundraising causes
• Team of Gina Drinkwater, Lori Battagin, Lauren Rosset – Human Resources Department – for successful implementation of the College’s human resources conversion to PeopleSoft
• Steve McLeod, Michelle Morley, Brent Irwin, Nicola Gray – Athletics Department -– for successfully organizing two OCAA Provincial championships

The College was also proud to recognize three other people for their achievements outside of the Northern Lights Awards, including:

• Sherri Smith, chair of Natural Environment, Business, for her induction into the Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame
• Kay Vallee, professor of Nursing for successfully completing her PhD in Nursing
• Cheryl Hodgson, Chartwells, for her ongoing commitment of engagement and compassion to the students and staff of the college
