Sault resident charged with spousal assault near Chapleau

OPP responded to a disturbance call near Honey Lake on Aug. 1; accused faces multiple charges, including assault with a weapon and uttering threats

A 31-year-old Sault Ste. Marie resident is facing multiple spousal assault charges after the OPP responded to a domestic incident near Honey Lake, south of Chapleau.

Police responded to the disturbance call shortly after 10 a.m. on Aug. 1, according to a news release from Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.

Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the OPP is not releasing the name of the accused.

The person is charged with:

  • Assault - spousal
  • Assault causing bodily harm - spousal
  • Assault with a weapon - spousal
  • Mischief - domestic
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - spousal

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear back at the Ontario Court of Justice in Chapleau later this month.
