Winter enthusiasts will be crossing their fingers for some snow this weekend.

On Sunday, Hiawatha Highlands will be hosting the annual ski the trails fundraiser in support of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation.

Following is a full release with additional details on the event:

Looking for a winter challenge? Hit the trails in support of Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) for some outdoor fun. Winter enthusiasts, cross your fingers for snow and plan to join us at Hiawatha Highlands on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024 for this annual fundraiser in support of Sault Area Hospital Foundation.

How far can you ski in a day? After a slow start to the ski season due to the lack of snow, here’s a chance to log as many kilometers as you can in one morning. Challenge yourself while you raise funds for our local hospital. Join the fun by collecting a minimum of $50 in pledges for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. Participants of all ages and levels can register and donate online by clicking here.

“We’re choosing to be optimistic, crossing our fingers and hoping for snow,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director, Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “This longstanding winter event spearheaded by two avid skiers, Dr. Phil Dopp and Dr. James Curran, has raised more than $175,000 over the years to purchase essential medical equipment needed at Sault Area Hospital.”

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. in the Kinsmen Centre. Participants can check in and receive their brunch ticket before they set out to ski. After a morning on the trails, participants can treat themselves to a pancake brunch at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn. Included with brunch is a pass to the Club Cabana Aqua Spa facilities to enjoy a swim, hot tub or sauna. For guests choosing to attend the brunch only, the fee is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12 years of age.

“In years past, we’ve braved the elements to see this event through – forging on after a lightning storm, hail and rain,” said Tasha Varpio, SAHF event organizer. “Skiers are a hearty, enthusiastic bunch and I’m optimistic that if there is snow, they’ll show up!”
