Hiawatha Highlands was the place to be on Feb. 26 as skiers, snowshoers, and fat bikers hit the trails in support of SAHF’s Ski the Trails. With the pledges all tallied, the annual fundraiser has successfully surpassed the $25,000 fundraising goal. All proceeds from the event will support the purchase of medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital.

Spearheaded by two avid skiers, Dr. Phil Dopp and Dr. James Curran, Ski the Trails has now raised over $200,000 total for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. The long-standing event is a favourite for winter enthusiasts who wish to challenge their endurance and see how many kilometres can be completed in one morning. This year, Dr. Joseph Reich stepped in as the Physician ambassador to continue the tradition of a fun day on the trails.

“It was terrific to see new and veteran skiers from the ski, university and physician communities challenge themselves and support this event,” said Dr. Joseph Reich.

“Participation numbers were up this year, with the addition of first-time skiers from Algoma University,” said Teresa Martone, executive director of Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “Thank you to all who sponsored, participated, and pledged – and a special thank you to Dr. Reich for leading the charge.”

''Thank you to our generous sponsors: RBC Securities – Comeault Dwyer Advisory Group, n1 Solutions, SooToday, Floreani, O’Toole and Dool Orthodontists, Algoma Bicycle Company, PUC, Family Dentistry on Bay and Vélorution. This event would not be possible without the partnership of the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club and Hiawatha Highlands."
