NEWS RELEASE
SAULT AREA HOSPITAL FOUNDATION
*****************
Mother Nature was on the side of Sault Area Hospital Foundation this year! It was a beautiful day at Hiawatha Highlands on March 1, 2020 when dozens of skiiers, fatbikers, and snowshoers hit the trails in support of the 10 th Annual Ski the Trails fundraiser.
Local anesthetists and avid skiers Dr. Dopp and Dr. Curran once again led the charge, collecting pledges and skiing every trail at Hiawatha (36 km!). A special shout-out to Dr. Dopp who, despite having a broken ankle, still managed to snowshoe the trails.
“This was the best year yet, with more participants and more pledges. We are thrilled with the turn out,” said Dr. Dopp “And very pleased to have surpassed this year’s goal of $25,000.”
“It was fantastic to see so many people, young and young at heart, enjoying our beautiful trails all in support of our hospital,” said Dr. Curran.
In the past 10 years, the event has now raised over $150,000 for Sault Area Hospital Foundation, helping to purchase critical medical equipment for our local hospital.
“We are so grateful to the leadership of Drs. Dopp and Curran,” said Teresa Martone – Executive Director of Sault Area Hospital Foundation. “They saw a need to help our hospital, and became part of the solution: creating this fantastic fundraising event that is now been going for 10 years strong. We couldn’t do what we do, providing the important equipment SAH needs, without the support of so many like these two generous doctors and the fantastic ski community that has rallied around this event. Thanks to all who sponsored, participated, and pledged!”
This event would not be possible without the partnership of the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club and Hiawatha Highlands. Thank you also to our generous sponsors Manfred Fischer Investment Planning Council, Freshii, RBC Securities, Tenaris, Family Dentistry on Bay, Floreani O’Toole Orthodontists, Arauco, Algoma Bicycle Company, Lake Superior Physiotherapy, Velorution and Fit Bodies Fit Minds.
