Special boat cruise celebrates local foster families

The Foster Resource Team at the Children's Aid Society of Algoma arranged a boat tour along the St. Marys River on the final day of summer

The Children’s Aid Society Algoma celebrated foster care appreciation on Saturday.

The Foster Resource Team arranged a boat tour along the St. Marys River on the last day of summer.

The two-hour cruise on the Miss Marie had music, food, and lots of mingling, allowing foster families to reconnect with friends and build new relationships.

“We wanted to take the opportunity to offer our gratitude for the endless support the families provide to the children of Algoma and we wanted to celebrate the important work they are doing and acknowledge their selflessness,” said Child Welfare Foster Resource Supervisor, Lee-Ann Pettenuzzo, in a news release.

“The Miss Marie didn’t disappoint, the fall colours and exceptional weather were an added bonus. The staff of the Miss Marie were incredible, and along with a catered meal from Aurora’s Restaurant, it was a remarkable event.”

The society said foster families are critical to the safety and well-being of thousands of children across the province.

“Foster parents provide homes that nurture and assist children and youth develop positive identities and healthy relationships, while maintaining connections between the children and their parents,” it stated.

Anyone interested in fostering can call 705-949-0162, ext. 310.
