Road work has begun on three road projects in St. Joseph Township including the A Line, 10th Side Road and Camp D'Ours Road, and there will be road closures as a result.

In a notice that was mailed out the Township advised residents to the rehabilitation of the Two Tree bridge on the A-Line and Two Tree bridge on the 10th side Road, as well the Camp D'Ours bridge on Camp D'Ours Road and some minor vertical realignment to the Camp D'Ours Road at the bridge.

Construction began the week of June 6 and the contract completion date for the entire project is scheduled for September 1, 2016.

The cost of the construction is $477,052.10.

The Township received $25,000 from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, which has been dedicated to the bridge rehabilitation program. The balance will be taken from municipal reserves.

In the notice from the municipal office, the contractor has assured the Township that complete closure of the bridges, if required will be kept to a absolute minium duration and that the public will be notified.

Detour routes will be made available where feasible and proper notification will be provided. Also, contractors will not be working on weekends.

Unfortunately, the closure of the 10th Sideroad, south of the F&G Line, will be required from June 13 through June 30. Detour routes will be made available with signage.

Questions regarding construction and traffic disruptions should be directed to Robert St. Amour (Bob) at WSP Engineering at 705 542 2023 or by email at robert.st.amour@wspgroup.com, or David Spacek at the WSP office in Sault Ste Marie at 705 942 2070.  Township contact is Carol Trainor at 705 246 2625, ext 202.

Bridges are inspected every two years with the last inspection done in 2014. The bridges will be inspected upon completion.

The age of the Two Tree bridges is not known.

Last work done on Camp D'Our bridge which included cribbing and decking was carried out August 2004.
