Plans for a dome over the Superior Heights track and artificial turf field were permanently punctured by city council last month, but the high school on North Street has nonetheless landed a lot more outdoor seating for football games and other events.
The city's just-released report on October building permits includes a $240,000 addition to the school's existing raised outdoor bleacher seats.
The report shows the new seating section essentially duplicating the existing bleachers, and located at the north end of the field.
The city issued 120 building permits worth a total of $6.2 million in October.
That compared to 77 permits worth $4.9 million during the same month last year.
The largest permit issued this October was for a $1.58-million addition and renovations at St. Kateri Outdoor Learning Centre, 1539 Goulais Ave.
Renovations there include upgrades to the HVAC system and a conversion to LED.
The second-biggest permit was for a $1.5-million residential row-house development at 661 Goulais Ave.
That project will have five one-storey housing units with unfinished basements.
A $50,000 roof replacement is planned at the Ermatinger-Clergue National Historic Site at 831 Queen St. East.
A single-family dwelling at 538 Pine St. will be converted to three residential units at a cost of $50,000.
A $10,000 permit was also issued to convert the former Stork + Bundle location at 715 Queen St. East into a bar/lounge with an accessible washroom.
As SooToday's Kenneth Armstrong reported earlier today, that new establishment will be run by the owners of the popular Whisky Barrel on Gore Street.
It will be called the Wisp Lounge.
Year to date, Sault Ste. Marie has issued 1,008 building permits with a total value of $155.6 million.
That compares to 1,017 permits worth $135.7 million at this time last year.
