Clean North is sending out congratulations to Ava Hill, Aili Laird, Mya Moody and James Newbery — four area high school students who have won $500 scholarships from the local environmental group.

Clean North shared the following about the winners:

  • Hill, a St. Mary’s College graduate, plans to study environmental science at the University of Waterloo
  • Laird, an École Notre-Dame-du-Sault graduate, plans to pursue marine biology at the University of Guelph
  • Moody, also an École Notre-Dame-du-Sault graduate, will study civil engineering at Ottawa University
  • Newbery, a Superior Heights Collegiate and Vocational School graduate, will pursue environmental science at the University of Guelph

“At Clean North, our mandate is to encourage and help people to lead greener lives, for the benefit of not just the environment but also humanity,” Clean North vice chair Peter McLarty said in a news release.

“Today’s young people are the environmental leaders of tomorrow. We look to them to come up with innovative new ways to green our world.”

“Awarding these scholarships is an investment in preserving our future and the environment for generations to come,” said Clean North’s Rob Bressan. “We were impressed with all who were nominated, and we wish all of them well as they explore the important environmental issues facing us today.”
