Three new wildfires in Ontario's Northeast Region

The fire hazard remains high across most of the Northeast Fire Regio

There are three new wildfires in Ontario's Northeast Region.

That includes two confirmed late Friday evening and one confirmed early Saturday evening.

Here are the active wildfires:

  • Cochrane 8 (COC008) is a 35 hectare fire that is being observed. This fire is located about 57.5 kilometres northwest of Moosonee.
  • Sudbury 12 (SUD012) is a 0.2 hectare fire that was confirmed late evening on May 31 and is currently under control. This fire is located northwest of Windy Lake on the north side of Highway 144 about 4.8 kilometers northwest of Onaping. One FireRanger crew is committed to this fire.
  • Kirkland Lake 2 (KLK002) was a 0.7 hectare fire confirmed late evening on May 31 and was called out later that night. This fire was located east of Munro Lake about 2.8 kilometres north of Highway 101.
  • Cochrane 7 (COC007) is a 0.6 hectare fire that is under control. This fire is located west of Horseshoe Lake, about 13 kilometres southwest of Iroquois Falls.
  • Sudbury 11 (SUD011) is a 3.6 hectare fire that is being held. This fire is located about 1.7 kilometres east of the Highway 69 and Rural Route 637 intersection between Lovering and Nakara Lakes. Two FireRanger crews are committed to this fire.
  • Cochrane 6 (COC006) was remapped and is now 13 hectares. The status of this fire is not yet under control. This fire is located 20 kilometres northwest of Fort Severn off the coast of Hudson Bay. One Ontario FireRanger crew and a Coastal Ranger are assigned to this fire.
  • North Bay 5 (NOR005) remains under control. This 106 hectare wildland fire is located about 3 kilometres southeast of Cobalt.

The fire hazard remains high across most of the Northeast Fire Region and extreme for areas between Greater Sudbury, Blind River, Chapleau and Timmins, and around Temiskaming Shores. There are a few moderate areas, including the southeast portion of Manitoulin Island and areas south of Huntsville and Haliburton.

Northeast Region

Help fight forest fires: Stay clear of waterbombers!

When waterbombers approach a body of water, move close to the shore so they can perform their scoop safely. A waterbomber will not scoop from a lake or river if encroaching watercraft pose a safety hazard. Be safe, stay clear of waterbombers.

No Drone Zone: Be safe, stay clear of forest fires!

Flying drones around forest fires is both dangerous and illegal. When you fly a drone near a forest fire, you can put the lives of pilots, firefighters and other emergency personnel at risk. Be safe, stay clear of forest fires.
