Thunder Bay clerk scares off would-be robber by producing bigger knife

Man sought in attempted armed robbery of popular south-side bakery
Police station

THUNDER BAY — In a scene ripped from the script of Crocodile Dundee, a clerk with a bigger knife than that of a suspect wanted in an attempted armed robbery Wednesday managed to scare off a would-be thief.

Thunder Bay Police, in a release issued hours after the incident, said a lone male armed  with a knife entered the European Bakery and Pizza on Simpson Street just after 8 p.m.

He attempted to rob the lone clerk in the business, but the victim held up a larger knife, which panicked the suspect, who fled into the night.

The accused was last seen running into the East End via an underpass leading from Simpson Street.
