Toronto man busted in Blind River with loaded handgun, $46K in cocaine: OPP

Charges were laid against 26-year-old Saturday afternoon following a traffic stop on Causley Street

A 26-year-old from Toronto is facing a long list of charges after OPP officers in Blind River say they found a loaded handgun and lots of cocaine inside a car over the weekend.

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, police conducted a traffic stop on Causley Street after being alerted by an automatic licence plate reader (ALPR) that the registered owner was a suspended driver.

The male driver provided a false name and was promptly arrested, police say. 

According to the OPP, a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a loaded handgun, tobacco products, a small amount of marijuana, and more than 400 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of approximately $46,000.

Ross Hagan of Etobicoke is charged with:

    •    Transport Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner
    •    Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
    •    Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
    •    Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
    •    Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
    •    Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
    •    Obstruct Peace Officer
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
    •    Breach of Recognizance (two counts)

Hagan appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail Court in Blind River on Oct. 29, and was remanded into custody.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and he is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
