VIDEO: Argonauts players try to pronounce 'Sault Ste. Marie' — it didn't go well

Salt Street Marie? Salt Sainte Maria?

They genuinely tried their best, but players on the Toronto Argonauts just couldn't quite nail the pronunciation of "Sault Ste. Marie" in a hilarious video the CFL football team uploaded to social media this week.

The 2022 Grey Cup champions tried to pronounce a number of cities in Ontario, and the Sault appeared to leave several players completely tongue-tied.

"Salt," "Street," and "Maria" — or a mashup of all of them — were among the funniest guesses in what became a complicated three-part equation. 

While they weren't going to be earning any trophies for their amusing attempts, the video has provided laughs for nearly 40,000 viewers. 

Jake Ceresna, a U.S.-born defensive lineman with the Argos, managed to pronounce the Sault correctly towards the end of the video — he's our MVP now.

Players were tested and struggled with other cities and streets around the province, including Queens Quay, Orillia, Gananoque, and Vaughan.

Even the author of this story had a hard time with one of them — we'll leave you to guess which one.

To the Toronto Argonauts: Saultites would be happy to help you pronounce our city's name, just as long as you come up north for a Canadian Football League preseason game to patch things up. Even a practice would do.
