NEWS RELEASE
SAULT COMMUNITY CAREER CENTRE
*************************
Are you interested in becoming a volunteer? Sault Community Career Centre is a recognized leader in the settlement and integration of newcomers and refugees to Sault Ste. Marie.

Refugee families are settling successfully, thanks to our network of volunteers, partner organizations, and businesses. However, with additional families on the way, the need for more volunteers remains urgent.

As a volunteer, your role will be to provide guidance to refugee families through their transition and to offer assistance with common everyday tasks.

You might help collect household items like towels and blankets, provide transportation to places like the grocery store or the bank, assist them with travel to medical and dental appointments, visit with them, or accompany them to welcome events in the community.  Through their involvement, volunteers help create a supportive community around newcomers that make them feel welcomed and connected.

If you are interested in volunteering with Sault Community Career Centre’s New to the Sault program, please contact Brenda Cooper, Volunteer Coordinator, at brenda.cooper@saultcareercentre.ca or 705-542-9088. You can also fill out the online form on our webpage.

Upcoming volunteer orientation sessions are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 14 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Quotes from newcomers about our volunteers:

“The volunteers made us feel welcome and hopeful for the future.”
“The volunteers are good teachers. They taught us how to live in Canada.”

Quote from our volunteers:

“My husband and I were totally caught off guard with the wave of emotion that came over us when we went to the airport to welcome the newcomers to Canada. It was so heartwarming to see the look of excitement and anticipation on the children's faces. I will forever remember when their 13-year-old son came over to the volunteers and shook each and every one of our hands and said, 'Thank you.' Since that day we have thoroughly enjoyed keeping in touch with this family and watching them move forward.”
