NEWS RELEASE
ALZHEIMER SOCIETY OF SAULT STE MARIE
*************************
There are over 3,000 local people affected by a dementia, and this number does not include others impacted such as family, friends and caregivers. More people are being diagnosed with dementia each year, and the need to support people with a dementia and their caregivers has never been greater.
We all experience the personal and social impact of dementia. For our health-care system and economy this means higher demand for services and soaring costs.
IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is a great opportunity for our community to rally against dementia and show their support for friends, families and neighbours who are impacted. The local chapter needs to fundraise over $450,000 each year to continue to provide services such as Education, Family Support, Recreation Therapy and the Minds in Motion Program.
The indoor IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s takes place at White Pines Secondary School on Sunday, Jan. 26. Registration is at 12 noon, and the walk starts at 1 p.m.
It’s a fun day for the entire family with face painting, balloons, a clown, and refreshments. Participants are invited to write a name on a forget me not flower to place on the Memory Tree in honor of a loved one Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
To register and collect pledges for the local IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s please visit here. Pledge forms are also available at the local office at 341 Trunk Rd., IG Wealth Management, The Shoe Fits! and the Family YMCA.
