Another summer long weekend is on the horizon.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie has released a list of facilities and services that will be closed for Sir William H. Hearst Day (August 5 Civic Holiday).

  • Bay Street Active Living Centre and the Northern Community Centre 55+ programs
  • Cemetery office
  • City Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Depot
  • Fire Services Administrative office
  • GFL Memorial Gardens, office and Box Office
  • James L. McIntyre Centennial Library and the North Branch Library
  • John Rhodes Centre and the Northern Community Centre arena
  • Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre
  • Public Works office. For 24-hour emergency service, call 705-759-5201
  • Sault Transit office

There will also be no garbage, leaf and yard waste or recycling pickup on Monday, August 5. Monday’s collection will be moved to Tuesday with collection being pushed back one day for the remainder of the week.

In addition, the city’s landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Depot will be closed on the holiday. For more information, visit saultstemarie.ca/waste or call Public Works and Engineering Services at 705-759-5201.

Regular transit and Parabus service will be running on Monday, August 5. Transit will operate hourly on weekend service, leaving the terminal at a quarter after the hour. However there will be no community bus on the holiday. The Pointe Des Chenes (PDC) bus will operate as follows:

Additional details on affected city facilities and services follows:

Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site will be open Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Bellevue and Bondar marinas are open on August 5 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Northern Community Centre will be open for scheduled events.

The John Rhodes pool will be open during regular hours with a Parent & Child/Lane Swim from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a Public Swim from 1:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Peter G. Manzo and V.E. Greco outdoor pools will be open from 1 to 7 p.m., weather permitting.

The Bellevue Park and Manzo Park Splash Pad is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Rotary Interactive Fountain will be open from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.  with the Summer Olympics broadcast on the screen.
