If you’re heading out on the roads today, use caution and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for our area Sunday.

“Snow is expected to continue through today,” the advisory stated. “Highways north and east of Sault Ste. Marie are likely to be affected by this snowfall.”

"Following the snowfall, lake effect snow squalls may begin tonight through Monday night for Sault Ste. Marie and Searchmont regions."

Meteorologists say 5 to 10 cm of snow could fall, but areas at higher terrain could get more than that.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas,” Environment Canada added.

“Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.”
