A winter weather travel advisory is now in effect for the Sault Ste. Marie area.

Environment Canada says isolated areas of heavy snow could significantly reduce visibility Friday night.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow," the advisory said. "Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow."

"Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas."

The forecast for the Sault is calling for 5 cm of snow to fall tonight.

Winter weather travel advisory in effect.

Hazards:
Snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 cm, with locally higher amounts possible.
Significantly reduced visibility in bursts of heavy snow.

Ending tonight.

Discussion:
Snow is not expected to be widespread. Isolated areas of heavy snow will significantly reduce visibility. The most intense snow is expected to move out of the area from west to east tonight.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
