Workweek Outlook: Cold snap brings -20 windchills

Colder than normal conditions move into the region this week

The weather pattern across Canada dramatically changed early this past weekend as frigid air pushed in from Siberia. The dangerously cold weather in western Canada will not eventually move into Ontario; nonetheless, we will see colder than normal conditions.

This cold snap brings temperatures about 5 degrees colder than normal for mid-January but also brings dry air that will eliminate the possibility of widespread snow events for this week and this weekend. We could see temperatures climb closer to the freezing mark sometime next week.

Monday brings a mix of sun and cloud, with snow squalls again north of the city. Daytime highs will be near -10°C, but windchill values will be at or below -20.

A few more clouds move in for Tuesday, with a chance of flurries in the evening. Temperatures will only reach -12°C, meaning another day with windchill values below -20.

The clouds slowly move out on Wednesday, with afternoon temperatures of -10°C. Light snow is possible in the evening. We could see the sunshine hang on into Thursday and Friday, but daytime highs remain near -10°C.
