Workweek Outlook: Warming locks in a green Christmas

Winter officially arrives this Wednesday, but it'll feel more like fall by the weekend

A Green Christmas is a near certainty for those with a trace or no snow on the ground around the Sault region. It will be a close call for those mainly north of the city as we head towards at least a week's worth of warmer weather.  Winter officially arrives this Wednesday, but it'll feel more like fall by the weekend.

High pressure moves towards the area early this week to bring a brief cool down. However, once this feature moves directly overhead and even a little to the east, warmer-than-normal temperatures will build toward Christmas. Santa may need wheels on his sleigh as temperatures on Christmas Eve may not even fall below freezing.

The next chance of any organized weather system holds off until the days after Christmas - and even then, it could bring rain.

A few morning flurries give way to sunshine on Monday, but a cold north wind develops. Temperatures will start the day near the freezing mark but fall throughout the rest of the day and into the night. Windchill values fall below -10 by early in the afternoon.

Tuesday brings a mix of sun and cloud along with a southerly wind.  Daytime highs only climb to 0°C thanks to overcoming the chilly morning lows below -10°C.

Wednesday brings mostly cloudy skies, but temperatures will gradually climb to near +3°C.

Thursday will be sunny, but we could see another brief cooldown before warmer weather (and clouds) build back into the region for Friday and this coming weekend.
