Starting the morning of Friday April 5, more than 550 ringette players on 39 teams will kick-off the annual North East Region Ringette Championship Tournament. Games in divisions from under-7 to 18+ run throughout the weekend at both John Rhodes Community Centre ice pads, the McMeeken Centre and the Rankin Arena. The event is hosted by the Sault Ringette Club with 10 local teams participating.

Ringette has been played in Sault Ste. Marie for 35 years and the Sault Ringette Club has seen registrations double over the past 5 years (boys and girls!) attributed in-part to a learn to skate program that offers professional skating instruction.

Debbie Desgagne, the Club’s Vice President who has been playing Ringette for more than 30 years adds “Ringette is a sport that flies under the radar but the players and those who are involved are passionate about the game. It’s a sport that brings together high levels of skill, competition and team play. This tournament provides an excellent opportunity for the public to get to know and appreciate Ringette.”

The Sault Ringette Club invites all members of the public to come down to the rink this weekend to catch a few games and to cheer on your local teams. Games run throughout the day Friday and Saturday at the John Rhodes and McMeeken Centres and Saturday at the Rankin Arena with finals scheduled starting Sunday morning.
