An eight-car crash and a demolition derby highlighted Thursday night at Laird International Raceway.

The Late Model feature race found itself in a lengthy delay after 16 laps due to a crash that saw five cars knocked out of the race and involved eight total cars. The crash saw Jerry Artuso, Chris and Cory Furkey, Donnie Varcoe Jr., and Michael Gold knocked from the race with extensive damage to their cars. Rod Bolduc, Kevin Jackson, and Jason Praysner were all involved as well but managed to get back into the feature. A short time later Bill Butler crashed into the tires heading into turn three, eliminating himself from the race. After all was said and done, Paul Seabrook took home the victory over Jeremy Van Hoek and Bolduc.

Rick Leonard defeated Bolduc, Artuso and Cory Furkey in the Fast Car Dash while Praysner held off Artuso and Gold in the first heat race. Chris Furkey won the second heat race over Leonard and Van Hoek.

In the Factory Stock Division Stve Kent held off John Hamilton and Chris Jones in the first heat race while Hamilton came away with the second heat over Dick Wellwood and Kent.

Kent then proceeded to take top spot in the Factory Stock feature race. Hamilton came away with a second place finish while Bill See took third spot.

In the Modified Division, Maverick MacDonald made his return to Laird after a lengthy absence and won the division’s feature race over Dennis Uhlman. Young Jordan Sims won both heat races on the night.

In the Stock 4 Division Jake Irwin held off Donny Mergeart and Mike Baraluk in the feature to take his first career Stock 4 feature win. Cody McLean earned victories in both heat races.

Corey Diotte finished off the night by winning the demolition derby, held at the completion of the nights’ action.

In other Laird news, Scott Syrette, who was involved in a crash into the sand piles heading into turn three with Nick Jobst, has been putting in plenty of time getting his car back into shape. Chances are he could be making his return in the coming weeks after performing hours worth of work on his sand-filled engine.

Action continues next Thursday night with qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing set for 7 p.m.
