Action continues in high school hockey and volleyball

Friday night saw games in girl's high school volleyball as well as in the city high school hockey league

On Friday night, special teams played a big role for the CASS Huskies in a win over the St. Mary’s Knights.

CASS got a pair of shorthanded goals and scored another on the power play in a 4-2 win over St. Mary’s in Thessalon.

A power play goal by Shaymus Gregory in the second period was the eventual game-winner.

Mason Mortimore, in the opening period, and Austin Mortimore, in the third, had the shorthanded markers for the Huskies.

Spencer Osborne also scored for CASS while Michael Shaw assisted on a pair of goals.

Ethan Novello amd Nick Niro completed the scoring for St. Mary’s.

On Wednesday, Ethan West had the lone goal of the game as the Superior Heights Steelhawks beat St. Mary’s 1-0.

Zach Tarantini picked up the shutout for Superior Heights.

On Monday, Superior Heights scored four unanswered goals in a 4-2 win over the Korah Colts.

Evan Johnson had a goal and two assists for Superior Heights while West had a goal and an assist.

Mark Keenan assisted on a pair of Steelhawks goals.

Ryan Guindon and Ryan Klooster also scored for Superior Heights.

Michael Neveau and Daniel Carricato scored for the Colts.

In girl’s high school volleyball action on Friday night, Notre Dame beat White Pines in straight sets – 26-24, 25-22 – in senior action and also picked up a win in junior, also beating White Pines in straight sets – 25-24, 29-27.

Friday’s other volleyball action saw Korah beat Superior Heights in three sets in senior action with Superior Heights picking up the win in the junior game in three sets – 24-26, 25-19, 16-14. Scores were not provided for the senior game.

The schedule has seen a slight change as well as games originally scheduled for Jan. 21 have been moved one day to Jan. 22.
