Algoma University College and Sault College renewed their men’s basketball rivalry on Wednesday night at the George Leach Centre and made things very interesting for this season.
The Algoma Men defeated Sault College 75-72 on Wednesday night for their first-ever victory over their cross-town rivals.
Stefon Wilson led Algoma University, and all game scorers, with 22 points on the night including nine points in the second half.
Michael Harris chipped in with 14 points while veteran Jason Trinier added 13 points in the victory. Adam Carpenter also scored in double-digits for Algoma with 11 points, including eight in the second half.
For Sault College, much of their scoring was done by their starters, who logged a lot of minutes. Nate Whalen, with six points, was the only non-starter to score for Sault College. Mike Bouchard led the way with 21 points while Jeff Rennison added 18.
Next action for Algoma will be their regular season/home opener when they host St. Clair College on Oct. 15.
Sault College opens their season one night earlier, also against St. Clair.
