The Algoma University basketball teams wrapped up the home portion of their Ontario University Athletics (OUA) schedule over the weekend with games against the University of Windsor Lancers.
On Friday night in women’s action, Kayah Clarke had 18 points as Windsor beat Algoma 75-61.
Eve Uwayese chipped in with 14 points while Jordan Gutt had nine points and 14 rebounds for the Lancers.
Dionne Martin had 23 points for Algoma.
Karly Fracalanza had 20 points for Algoma.
In Friday’s men’s game, Algoma trailed by seven through one quarter before taking a slim one-point lead heading into the half en route to a 95-86 win.
Nicholas Gehlen of Algoma led all scorers in the contest with 28 points while chipping in with four steals as well.
Peter Wetuvanga had 17 points for Algoma while Ylane Kouassi had 12. Daniel Humphrey and Brandon Dwyer had 11 points each in the win.
Thomas Kennedy had 18 points and eight rebounds for Windsor. Shakael Pryce added 17 points and seven assists.
Saturday’s women’s game saw Windsor break open what was a tie game at the half with a strong third quarter en route to a 55-43 win.
Windsor outscored Algoma 20-11 in the third quarter in the win.
Clarke had 15 points and eight rebounds for Windsor.
Algoma got 24 points and 11 rebounds from Fracalanza in Saturday’s contest. Rebecca Wylie also had 11 rebounds for Algoma in the game.
The men’s game on Saturday saw Windsor rebound for a 90-81 victory.
Telloy Simon had 40 points for Windsor while Jake Polski chipped in with 13 points. Pryce added 12 points while Jordan Fullerton had 11.
Dwyer had 17 points to pace Algoma. Wetuvanga and Gehlen each had 13 points for the Thunderbirds.
Maxime Bellony had 12 points for Algoma.
Both teams are back in action next weekend with games on the road against the University of Waterloo beginning on Friday night.
