Algoma sweeps exhibition series with Alpena

*********************** BOTH ALGOMA U WOMEN'S & MEN'S TEAM DEFEAT ALPENA COLLEGE

Algoma U's Thunderbird Women's Basketball team defeated Alpena College in exhibition play by a score of 59 to 47. The score at the half time was only 27 to 25 in favour of Algoma.

Danielle D’Ettorre and Lara Stilin dropped in 16 and 8 points respectively, to lead the Thunderbirds past Alpena in the second half. Top scorers for Algoma University College were Danielle D'Ettorre with a 30 points, Lara Stilin with 13 and Kristen Conway with 8.

The Algoma U Men's team defeated the Alpena College Lumberjacks Men's team with a close score of 81 to 79. Half time score was 39 to 35 in favour of Alpena. The Lumberjacks steadily built up a lead of 16 points midway through the second half. Then the Thunderbirds relied on tough team defense and key baskets by Cory Glaister, as well as Jarrell Hogan.

Top scorer's for Algoma U were Arial Baptiste with 16 points, Stefon Wilson with 15 and Andrew Turgeon 13.

The Algoma U Men's team returns to regular season play on Friday night at 8 pm when they play the Lambton College Lions. The Women's team have a weekend off before they resume play on the road against Redeemer and Niagara College on the weekend of November 17 & 18.
